Death by WorkHi, I’m Chloë, and this is a self-portrait of me grinding my teeth for an article entitled ‘Death by Work’. Here are some of the things I do:

I write features. You can read some of my journalism here, much of this is about art, design and free time.

I curate and promote events. When I was at art school I ran a debauched club night. I’ve since hosted my own supper club, and collaborated on exhibitions, launches and food festivals.

I design and edit websites using Squarespace or WordPress, and a touch of code.

I blog. My award-shortlisted WordPress blog is good fun. It’s also taught me a lot about content management, website maintenance, analytics, online communities, social media marketing and SEO.

I draw stuff. I have taught graphics and illustration at colleges and studied communication design to MA level. My professional experience includes print design, poster art, editorial illustration, album artwork, magazine layout, picture research and commissioning.

I make magazines. While at the Royal College of Art I edited the student rag and launched an experimental art journal. From these rarified beginnings I went on to co-edit a hyperlocal lifestyle title.

I teach. I have experience as a visiting lecturer in communication design, blogging and contextual studies at FE and HE level.

I consult. I use my creative experience with pictures and words to offer small businesses the tools to communicate effectively. I advise on marketing methods, and help to put them in place: drafting engaging, sympathetic copy and visual content for websites, press releases, newsletters, social media and print.

I’m always open to, and full of, ideas. If your project could use a Chloë, get in touch.
